The unassailable logic of the oldest child

Missalmost17 (AKA Naomi)  is watching mr11 (AKA Nathan)play his Wii Game …. and providing a continuous back seat commentary. “Use the sword …. why didn’t you use the sword?” ” Can’t you see that arrow?” “Go that way” “How could you miss that?”

I don’t understand how Nathan is tolerating it ….. because its annoying the carp out of me. Tongue poking out :P

I just gave her the “you don’t like it when others do it to you” talk …… and her reply?

I have to … because he’s doing it wrong.

Rolling on the floor laughing (rofl) ….. LOL …. how can you argue with that? Rolls eyes (r)

Pay attention to me

I am at the bottom of the pile at work; the pit shoveller, the pleb, the shit kicker …. and other such colourful descriptive words to describe the person who gets to be bossed around by everyone.   This position is by choice.  Me being in a base level job, with its perks (ie school hols) means that the children get a meaningful school holiday every 10 weeks, meaning they can have a good rest between terms.  My kids have never attended holiday care, haven’t been “latchkey kids”, haven’t had to be at home sick by themselves because “mummy had to work”.   I am there when they leave in the morning, and home early enough in the afternoon to supervise homework and afternoon activities.  I can cook a healthy meal from scratch, make homemade muffins, and have time to sew clothing and gifts.  I attend assemblies, volunteered in the tuckshop, made fancy dress costumes,  cooked cupcakes for birthdays, and generally be an unpaid taxi.

But, just as there is little recognition at work, there is none at home either.  For all that I work, my work isn’t valued.  I get this vague appreciation, but its mostly based on my availability and the fact that I pick up the reins, while the important work gets done.  I don’t feel smart … or accomplished.   I don’t think my work impresses anyone, and really, I don’t feel like anyone cares all that much about my work.    I appreciate the technical challenges that my husband faces daily, and certainly his project management and negotiating skills have had to improve to cope with the added challenges of his job.    But what sort of appreciation do I get ….. being available?

Can I cancel today?

The first day of term is always a bit hectic ….. but honestly …… I must have stepped on a tribe of chinamen.

Even discounting the normal super busy day that I have on a regular basis ….. we also:

1. Lost power at 12.30pm ….. for the rest of the day. No computers, no lights, no heating ….. luckily I had a few non-electric things to do

2. At 3pm …… caught a ferret in the 3/4 room. Certainly not the normal, run of the mill thing to have to do

3. After dropping off the ferret at the local vets …. backed into a pole at the vets.

I decided it wasn’t safe for me to be away from home anymore … and promptly came home.

Sheesh …… I am exhausted. Rolling on the floor laughing (rofl)

Memories of childhood xmas

On the phone one night to my sister, and while discussing the plans I have for xmas this year, we went for a little trip down memory lane, to when we were kids at xmas time.

We were poor ……. really poor. My mum would scrape and skimp …. a lot of times, toys were from the second hand store or given to us from friends and family. Everything was wrapped …… knickers and socks, pencils for school, and there was always xmas clothes ….. one precious set of new (sometimes vinnies new … but new) clothes for “going out”. Often, mum had to chose between presents and wrapping paper … but not both. So most times our presents were wrapped in newspaper. Home made snowflake decorations, paper chains and crepe paper concertina chains. Having xmas dinner at nan’s or aunty libby’s ….. because we couldn’t afford the food.

And yet ….. to me and sis ….. they were the best xmas’s. We appreciate the extreme’s our mother went to, so that we could have a good xmas. And considering how mentally ill she was at the time, it was a spectacular achievement. We learnt to appreciate xmas for the love our mother showed us.

And ….. water fights !!!! LOL Rolling on the floor laughing (rofl)

My uncle drove a grain truck, and one xmas, the grain trailer was beside the house empty. He got some friends from the fire station to come over, hook up a hose to the mains, and he filled the grain trailer up with water. It was the best swimming pool out ….. we would stand on the top, and jump in through the holes where the grain was fed in.

The reason we got onto discussing pas xmas’s was because I was asking her opinion on the colours of the xmas gift bags I will be making. I was sort of leaning towards going and buying 4-5 metres of one patterned fabric, and making all the bags out of that.

Sis disagreed with me ….. she thinks I should get lots of different fabrics. Her reasoning was the memory of one particular xmas, when mum won a xmas hamper that included some rolls of paper, and we got xmas paper wrapped presents that year. She thinks the riot of colour with different patterns and colours ……. is a much better look.   For us it was a great memory.

Angry, angry, angry ….. and a bit hurt

I am angry at a person.  They are being thoughtless.  I ask for something simple, and apparently even that is too much to ask.

But … I am also hurt.   I enjoy caring for others, and doing things for them.  But having all attempts to help not even rejected … but ignored totally ….. god that hurts.

My poor husband …….

I am sure he dreads holidays …. Rolling on the floor laughing (rofl)

I have decided that the current set up for my study is not working. My sewing desk and the computer desk are right near each other, and if I am sewing, mr10 can’t use the computer. Add to that, the fact that the dining table will need to be extended when rellies arrive in a couple of months, and I can see that the current arrangement won’t work.

So …… I want to move some rooms around. Specfically the sewing desk into our bedroom, the computer desk near the kitchen, and the dining table and hutch into what has been my study.

I do this every hols ….. at least one room gets a remake. I think he is looking forward to me moving into full time work. At least then he wouldn’t have to move furniture around.
