My place and yours

Again, I am participating in this weeks meme, along with Punky and Me who has the greatest ideas …. certainly better than anything I can think up.

I was at a bit of a loss with this one …..

“My Favourite Piece of Clothing”

Now this is difficult for me.  Being a big person, I struggle with what I wear.  I wear what I like, but I am aware of the opinions of others, and no amount of self talk will make me impervious to judgement.   As a result, I tend to value my clothing on the basis of how comfortable it is, or how it makes me feel, rather than how it looks on me.

This top fits that first category well.  Its cool, comfortable, and thankfully fits.  But what makes it special, is that its one of the first things I have made for myself, that succeeded.   While I am experienced seamstress, sewing for my body shape is difficult, and my past sewing failures have been epic.  This one gets worn regularly so I think that’s an indication of its success as a home made top.

A top for me

Mind you …… this one isn’t technically my clothing, but I did make it.  While its riddled with imperfections and a clanging mistake here and there……. it required a vast step up in my sewing skills, and was a huge challenge.

Full length

And really …… I just wanted another opportunity to show off the daughter I made too …… isn’t she beautiful.

Clo ….. just a tic, will have a look. ok .. Simplicity 9193 easy to sew. Except I cut back the long sleeves to 3/4, angled the centre front and back on the fold to add a couple of cms to the lower body, and then slashed from the hem to just under where the bust is, to also add a couple of cm around the lower half of the top. The original design is very narrow through the waist and hips, and I am just not built like that. I am planning to do the next one in a soft jersey, and taper the hem down into handkerchief hem thingy.

No wonder you wanted to show off your daughter & the dress you made! Amazing, both. 😉

I think your attitude to your wardrobe is perfect, I should do that too, focus on how what I wear makes me feel rather than how I think other people might think it looks.
Thanks so much for joining in!

As for your daughter and her outfit (which I remember viewing on CM’s) – simply stunning.

I think your top looks FAB, lovely print and light just perfect for this summer.
Your daughter & dress look great too, was that made for a special event?

Thank you Andrea. My daughter’s outfit is actually a dress in lined burnout silk chiffon, with a coat of satin back crepe. It was made for her Year 12 graduation.
