Blue Moon and Spam

Ok tonight is a blue moon ! This is a very rare event and one that should be marked in some way, here in Australia we decided to call an election. Yay! 😕

Last month the America’s had a blue moon on the 31st of July. Well now it is our turn. Due to the confusion of timezones Australia did not get a blue moon last month, but that full moon became the first for us in August. Now approx 29.5 days later we have had our 2nd full moon.

Now I just got a piece of creative spam as a comment so I thought I would share (the content, not the links).

Bad Tooth Fairy

My son lost his first tooth two days ago. Now we cleaned it up and put it in a special tooth holder, so the tooth fairy would have no problem finding it. Now we have a busy life at the moment, with me travelling each week Dani working 4 days a week and all of us working on our daughters school project.

I am not sure why but this seems to have prevented the tooth fairy from making it into our house and swapping the tooth for a dollar coin (what can I say inflation!). Not one but two nights in a row the tooth fairy has slacked off.

My boy came in this morning and said “Our Tooth Fairy is USELESS!!”

Better luck tonight.

Update:Well the tooth fairy came and found a tooth AND 10 cents. Seems my boy is prepared to PAY the tooth fairy to take his tooth away. Boy do I feel bad. 😳

I know an author!

Ok a work friends wife has published her first book, Holycross (search for Holycross). This book outlines the history of the O’Mara family from Tipperary in Ireland. Through civil unrest, murders, trials and then to the Van Dieman’s Land (Tasmania) colony.

Judith did all the research, most of the illustrations, the cover design, layout and got the book self published. I am in awe of the time, effort and quality that Judith has put into this.

I am still reading, so you can expect a full review soon.

Bose Suspension System

Ok so here is something a little different. Bose, the famous speaker makers, have come up with a new suspension system for cars.

This looks really cool, and active suspension system that uses linear electromagnetic motors to control each wheel. Each of the linear motors can push the wheel towards the ground or pull it up to the car, allowing all the bumps and potholes to be smoothed out. This will also prevent body roll when cornering and pitch when accelerating or braking.

Free Software Day!

Tomorrow is “Software Freedom Day” and as a user, suporter and contributor to Open Source Software I highly recommend that you all go have a look, and if you can grab TheOpenCD do so. This disk has a wealth of software for Windows that will make your life simplier, easier and save you money.

Travelling Again

Well in a day or so I am off to Canberra for another months worth of work.

This will be my last trip, before starting on a new project in Brisbane.

As usual I will keep you all posted.

Bus Ride

This morning it was raining for the first time in, I don’t know how long, and it made for a very surreal bus ride into work. My random play on the iPod seemed to be reading my mood and the images as they flashed by.

Windows fogged and streaked distort the world into surreal images.
Constant stops past surburban streets, turned into a linear kalidoscope,
with the “Transfer” waiting for the Savages to come [1].
Savages becoming clear people and losing mushroom tops as they enter the bus,
dripping with the moisture of the day.
Multi-coloured boxes pass the window as cars overtake the bus,
shapes distorted in the blurs,
striking colours in blues, reds and yellow.
Round the round-about, over the hill,
leaving my local area with the “Straits” praising the hero [2].
Background noise softened to a hiss and a whir,
as the bus leaves the last stop before the express trip to work.
The crash barriers become a white fence
keeping out the looming, dark and ominous shapes of the trees.
The trees give way to the dark linear band of barriers
and “Kitaro” is promising a rising sun [3].

Drops streaked across my vision as the bus got up to speed,
distorted, blurred images flew past.
Light played and flashed but did not resolve into shapes or patterns.
Slowing down images of towers emerged from the blur
and “Betty” [4] did not care what the weather was.
Traffic and traffic lights again, stop, start whine and hum.
Tower blocks, people and cars were distinguishable from the haze.
My stop came and I went, agreeing with “Kate”, Wow! [5].

  1. “10 minutes till the Savages Come” – The Manhatten Transfer
  2. “Local hero/Wild Theme” – Dire Straits
  3. “Dawn/Rising Sun” – Kitaro
  4. “Come Rain or Come Shine” – Betty Roche
  5. “Wow (Amazing)” – Kate Bush

Injured

Well I have injured myself. Silly really 😳 .

My son had his athletics today, and after his races (in which he put in lots of effort) it was the parents time. So I dutifully lined up for a 50 metre dash. They sent the ladies off a few seconds before us men, well I must admit I got carried away. About 5 metres from the end I was not coming last and doing fine, then… pop! A really not nice noise came from the back of my left leg.

Well I made it over the line… but I think I have torn my hamstring. I am now working from home felling embarrassed and sore.

Will let you know what the doctor says later today.

Update: Well it is not my Hamstring (thankfully, since that would mean an operation) but just a torn muscle. One week of rest and painkillers.
